Change is Coming

Change is inevitable. I know it seems cliche but it is true. Whether we like it or not we are constantly evolving. Even if you sit perfectly still, and try to do nothing, aspects of your body change like hair and nails growing. This is true with Scouts as well. We are constantly seeing changes within the scouting organization. In fact, in 2019 the Boy Scouts of America became Scouts BSA and started allowing girls to be part of the program. Troop 604 G was formed here in Mount Pleasant and in April Jocelyn Strandskov attained Eagle rank (See Morning Sun Article).

The change I am referencing here though is just our annual changing of the guard as the Troop selects a scout to be their new Senior Patrol Leader (SPL). Scouts BSA is intended to be a scout led organization with the scouts planning and organizing events and activities while learning along the way. This past year our SPLs for both the boys and girls troops met quite a few challenges as they dealt with restrictions related to COVID and trying to keep fellow scouts engaged through online meetings and socially distanced activities. I was very impressed with how they have handled it.

Now, as we move out of many of the restrictions, I look forward to working with the next leaders of the troop and patrols that are selected by their fellow scouts. There will be challenges, there always are, but I am confident that with the guidance of their parents and other amazing adult leaders we currently have working with me in our troop the scouts will be able to handle them and come out the other side stronger for it.
