The Oscoda-Wurtsmith Aviation Camporee will be sponsored by the Wurtsmith Air Museum and the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) at the Oscoda-Wurtsmith Community Airport from 26 Aug from 5:00 PM through 28 Aug at 1:00 PM. The event will consist of a variety of aviation centric activities including aviation maintenance experiences (riveting, wiring, aircraft construction), and games designed to teach Scouts about flying like a preflight instruction & contest, practice radio calls in a virtual traffic pattern, Foam Plate Glider (FPG-9) contest, weight and balance station, and museum tours. Static displays will be invited from civil, military and homeland security organizations. Campground is on airport property, municipal water is available on site, porta-Johns will be rented including at least two handicap access units. Staff will come from Venturing Crew 7, Troop 7G, Troop 959, U.S. Military and Department of Homeland Security, volunteers from the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Wurtsmith Air Museum. EAA will be offering a limited number of free ‘Young Eagle’ flights to participants. Participation in Young Eagle Flights requires a permission form signed by a parent or guardian and submitted in advance. The number of flights to be offered depends on weather, number of aircraft, number of volunteer pilots and other factors. Scouts can anticipate that they will be able to complete all requirements for the Aviation Merit Badge on site. Scout and Venturing Units can remain overnight both Friday and Saturday nights. A campfire will be organized Saturday evening after dinner. Units are encouraged to bring songs and skits that follow all Scouting guidelines. Units must be able to move water from the tap to their campsite up to 200′ away.
Cubs are invited as day visitors and may stay for the campfire. All attendees pay $10, must register prior to 10 August 2022, and must pre-coordinate any Scouts or Venturers desiring Young Eagle flights at registration and by submitting an EAA permission slip signed by a parent or guardian (POA). A public swimming beach where units with safe swim defense trained adults can swim using line and tender safety techniques (beach is unguarded).
Units must register their own youth – no individual registrations.  Units provide their own meals.
